Message for AWGA

Greetings from San Francisco California!

Congratulations to Linda Lu and the entire AWGA creation team!

What a fantastic opportunity for all of us to continue learning.

I am often asked, after more than 40 years of doing my work, how can I remain passionate every time. For me the answer has two parts:

#1 The first part is the power of compelling desire.

I am compelled to contribute to men and women who have goals they care about and sincerely want to reach them.  I enjoy the process of "being" with committed people like you in that process.  At the end of the journey to our goals we win or we lose.  Like you I LOVE the experience of winning!  However, sometimes we lose...Both winning and losing are our teachers if we use both results as an opportunity to learn.  Winning feels better, but we still must ask what made that happen so that we can do it again. Losing feels lousy but it can be our most powerful teacher.  It is who we become in losing that generates a will to succeed.  In this journey you and I get to know each other.  We share good times and bad times together and our relationship grows.  I find that journey compelling and one of the ingredients of a game worth playing.

#2 The second part is lifelong learning.

Lifelong learning is the "secret" to staying emotionally committed to our goals.  Over time it is easy to get complacent and disconnected with "why" the goal was important to us. The people I admire the most never stop learning and growing.  They know that you are either moving forwards or backwards, there is no such thing as standing still.

The Chinese character that represents the word "learning” is composed of two parts: a symbol that means, "to accumulate knowledge," above a symbol for a child in a doorway.

The "child in a doorway" symbol felt exactly right to me.  Children are spontaneously curious, asking questions ALL THE TIME!  They are excited about new discoveries.  There is a youthful energy to someone who is a lifelong learner.  We feel alive and inspired around them.

I am committed to lifelong learning and I believe that AWGA supports all of us in doing that.

Looking forward to my Secrets to Winning workshop May 2 & 3.  Hope to see you there and continue our learning together.

Love,

Kelly Poulos

Kelly Poulos
